2 Months Old

Macyn is now 2 months old (or 9 weeks)! Hard to believe how fast time has gone by. As you can see, she is starting to smile more! We had our 2 month checkup and shots on Monday. All I can say is, no parent should be required to hold down their baby so they can administer shots. I don't understand why they made me do that when they have capable nurses to hold them down....anyways, she weighs 10lbs 6 oz, so a whole pound more than last month. I think the nurse doesn't know how to measure her length because when she was born, she was 22" and her 2 week checkup was 21.5" and now at 2 months its 22.5" ....whatever, we will just go with that! Had to have her bilirubin levels checked again. 2 weeks ago we checked it and it went up which isn't good since its supposed to go down. My doctor talked to a Gastro Neurologist and he didn't seem concerened, but just for peace of mind, and my doctor's recommendations, we checked it again on Monday. It did go down about 2 points but still elevated. She said its called Breastmilk Jaundice, which is jaundice that happens in breastfed babies, causing it to remain elevated for a longer period of time. She has only had about 20-30 patients have this kind of jaundice before, so we are just one of the (un)lucky ones. On the good side, there are no long term effects of having it be elevated at the levels they are at now.Other things that have been going on....Macyn is starting to hold her head better as you can see! She also laughs more and really likes her Minnesota Vikings mobile. That always makes her laugh! She also likes to smile at her Daddy all the time, which makes me kinda jealous :) oh well! Everyone says she looks like her daddy, I would have to agree. But I think she has my face shape! Only time will tell....

Photography Refresher

While in college, I took a digital photography class which consisted of editing your own photos, manually exposing them, and taking 100 pictures per week. I hadn't really taken any pictures nor edited them since I started my full time job about 3.5 years ago. Maternity leave is the perfect time for myself to refresh my memory and see if I can still pull off some good shots, and be able to retouch them. We bought a new digital camera before Macyn was born, a Canon SX200IS. So, I decided to try and take some pictures of her (and make them look good instead of just "snap shots") So I set up the scene: our Christmas tree, presents, and a poinsettia. I was planning on different outfits for her - a diaper with a bow on her head, a diaper with a Santa hat, her Christmas dress, and her Baby's First Christmas onesie. Needless to say, we only got to do the diaper and Christmas dress shots. However, I think I got some good ones! My Photoshop CS4 trial expired so I didn't get a chance to retouch any of these, except the on that says "Christmas 2009" I don't think they turned out too shabby for having myself manually expose every single one of them (the auto feature just wasn't doing the trick). I think the key is making sure you have enough light...but anyways, here are some pictures! Hopefully I can make time in the future to take her 3 month, 6 month, etc. pictures too....but here are some of the pictures. You can find the rest on my facebook!

'Twas the Night Before Baptism....

and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even,...oh wait, Macyn sure was! We had bapstism this past Sunday, and on the baptism eve, Macyn decided to not go to bed until 1:00 in the morning...and then decided to be up at 5:00. What a night/morning! But anyways, we did indeed have baptism and it went really well....she slept the whole service (wonder why) and most of the day, so she was pretty easy to take care of. We had lunch and cake at our house afterwords with some relatives so it was nice to see all of them and overall had a great time with no big fiascos! We also became members of First Reformed on Sunday, so we had that, and then shortly after Macyn was baptised. My father in law did the baptism, and the words he spoke could have gotten me teary-eyed. (My mom and aunt both cried) He took Macyn into his arms and talked to her saying "I love you" and some other well wishes. We chose a verse for Macyn and my FIL memorized it and told it to Macyn:

"Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior." (Isaiah 43:1b-3a)

My DH and I really liked that verse, it shows God's plan for her (...called her by name, you are mine) and explained that he will always be w
ith her no matter what, and tells her that he is the Lord.

After the service we were welcomed to the congregation by mobs of people, which was really nice. My mom is from town here, so she knew alot of people in the church and had to explain how she was related, same with Josh's p
arents. All I know is there is going to be ALOT of Dutch Bingo going on!

.......but anyways, it was a great day, and here are some more pictures from Baptism.

One Month Old

That's right! Macyn is 1 month old today! Its amazing how fast it goes, but yet while being pregnant every 4 weeks seemed like F-O-R-E-V-E-R! But our little ones grow up so fast, so here are some updates. She officially weighs 9lbs 2 oz fully clothed which puts her into the 50th percentile for her weight. Not sure of what her length is, but its in the 85th percentile. She has been starting to fill out some clothes, especially the length! We have some sleepers she is too long for, but are baggy everywhere else. So its kind of hard to find a happy medium between length and weight :)

She also likes to lay on her mat and watch her toys, and be in her swing. She likes to make baby noises when she is happy and starting to smile a little bit more. She has also been sleeping better at night (knock on wood). A few nights the past week she has been sleeping for 5-6 hours at a time. She usually goes to bed around 10:30, gets up around 4:30 and sleeps again until 7:30....this isn't the case, however, when she is on a growth spurt. She is up like clockwork every 3 hours when that happens!

On the medical side, she still is a little Jaundiced but her bilirubin level continues to go down. However, she has an elevated liver enzyme that unexpectedly jumped a little higher this past week which means her liver isn't functioning quite 100% yet. Hopefully when I bring her to the lab to do yet more bloodwork next week it will be back to normal. If not, we have to get another doctor involved. Our doctor thinks she is low risk which makes us feel a little better.

So thats pretty much our life in a nutshell. Can't wait to see what month 2 brings....but they just grow up so fast! I'm trying to enjoy our nightime feedings and cuddle sessions as much as possible.

Bathtime Fun!

Macyn got the Dr's OK to take a tub bath, so last night she got her first one. She was a little fussy before the bath, but once we put her into her tub she loved it! No crying, even when we put water on her head to wash her hair! She seemed to like the bath alot, even splashing the water with her arms (even if it was an accident)! We finished off the bath by wrapping her up in her hooded ducky towel.

Family Photos

We took our first family photos the other night and we think they turned out great! We dressed Macyn in her Christmas dress and then with just a santa hat. Once we pick out the ones we like, they will be incorporated into a Christmas card which will be sent out shortly after Thanksgiving. Macyn did a good job during the photos - never cried once! Here are some of our favorites. If you would like to see all of our proofs, just ask me for the website and password. Enjoy!
