UPS Man of the Month

Every year at work we always get calendars from random vendors, different companies, etc. So when I realized I needed a new 2010 one for my desk the only one left (that wasn't huge) was none other than the UPS calendar. As I flip through it shows a couple of UPS trucks in the mountains, a UPS lady, and these two UPS hunks
What a way to kick off January 2010 with this UPS hunk...on a motorcycle. Really? and they just had to add the caption of "Delivering 1 package to every 2 people on Earth" so where is he going to put this, AHEM package on his motorcycle? There really isn't any room, which makes me think there *may* be a hidden meaning behind this month, one that I don't really want to think about.

And Mr. August over here is flexing his muscles, which aren't very big, which makes me think he must not lift very big packages, or maybe since he looks 13, he's not really a UPS guy....and besides, they do have laws against child labor so the best he could do was pose for the calendar.

Even though I appreciate the free complimentary calendar from UPS, I am swapping it for a NASCAR calendar my hubby brought home from work. Therefore I don't have to feel awkward having Mr. January staring me down all day at work. And besides, my new, awesome NASCAR calendar will make one of my co-workers jealous.

Happy Belated Birthday, Buddy

......his birthday was December 17, so I am a little late, but better late than never, right? Buddy is officially 2 years old or 24 in dog years according to www.dogyears.com
So here are some comparisons when we first brought him home to now at age 2.

Weight: Then-5lbs Now 25lbs
Tricks: Then-sit Now-sit, shake, lay down, stay, go in in your kennel, dance, go get your bone, go get your ball, catch, go for a car ride, go outside, OUT!
Food: Then-Iams Smart Puppy food Now-Iams Small Breed food
Barks: Then-little yelps Now-full on ferociousness
Toys: Then - Cuddle Puppy, and all kinds of chew toys Now-none! Just bones!

The reason for just bones? Well, he eats all his toys. I decided to buy him a hard rubber bone and he demolished it. One time I bought him a toy in the junk aisle at Walmart (aka. clearance section) and he had already chewed a hole in it by the time we got home...and we only live about 4 blocks away! So he has his retriever sized Kong toy for power chewers, a ball, and bones. He goes through about 1 1/2 bones per week.

So happy belated Birthday, Buddy. Hopefully by next year you will calm down a little bit!

Blog Ideas That I was too Lazy to Blog

So I have been absent for a while....not because nothing has been going on, but rather because I pretty much have been too lazy (I blame Farmville on Facebook........words to the wise, please don't start!)

So I was thinking to myself the other day at work how many things I have planned about blogging, but never really have. So in order to make up for it, I plan on blogging about events in my life over the past couple of weeks, so don't be surprised if it doesn't really seem in chronological order. So in order to achieve my goal, I already have titles for these non-existent blogs. And here are the titles, coming to a blog near you!

In no particular order......

UPS Man of the Month
Happy Belated Birthday, Buddy
Best Buds
Four Christmases
Blog Ideas That I was too Lazy to Blog

So these will be the lazy blogs, in addition to the new ones which I also plan to post!

2 Months Old

Macyn is now 2 months old (or 9 weeks)! Hard to believe how fast time has gone by. As you can see, she is starting to smile more! We had our 2 month checkup and shots on Monday. All I can say is, no parent should be required to hold down their baby so they can administer shots. I don't understand why they made me do that when they have capable nurses to hold them down....anyways, she weighs 10lbs 6 oz, so a whole pound more than last month. I think the nurse doesn't know how to measure her length because when she was born, she was 22" and her 2 week checkup was 21.5" and now at 2 months its 22.5" ....whatever, we will just go with that! Had to have her bilirubin levels checked again. 2 weeks ago we checked it and it went up which isn't good since its supposed to go down. My doctor talked to a Gastro Neurologist and he didn't seem concerened, but just for peace of mind, and my doctor's recommendations, we checked it again on Monday. It did go down about 2 points but still elevated. She said its called Breastmilk Jaundice, which is jaundice that happens in breastfed babies, causing it to remain elevated for a longer period of time. She has only had about 20-30 patients have this kind of jaundice before, so we are just one of the (un)lucky ones. On the good side, there are no long term effects of having it be elevated at the levels they are at now.Other things that have been going on....Macyn is starting to hold her head better as you can see! She also laughs more and really likes her Minnesota Vikings mobile. That always makes her laugh! She also likes to smile at her Daddy all the time, which makes me kinda jealous :) oh well! Everyone says she looks like her daddy, I would have to agree. But I think she has my face shape! Only time will tell....

Photography Refresher

While in college, I took a digital photography class which consisted of editing your own photos, manually exposing them, and taking 100 pictures per week. I hadn't really taken any pictures nor edited them since I started my full time job about 3.5 years ago. Maternity leave is the perfect time for myself to refresh my memory and see if I can still pull off some good shots, and be able to retouch them. We bought a new digital camera before Macyn was born, a Canon SX200IS. So, I decided to try and take some pictures of her (and make them look good instead of just "snap shots") So I set up the scene: our Christmas tree, presents, and a poinsettia. I was planning on different outfits for her - a diaper with a bow on her head, a diaper with a Santa hat, her Christmas dress, and her Baby's First Christmas onesie. Needless to say, we only got to do the diaper and Christmas dress shots. However, I think I got some good ones! My Photoshop CS4 trial expired so I didn't get a chance to retouch any of these, except the on that says "Christmas 2009" I don't think they turned out too shabby for having myself manually expose every single one of them (the auto feature just wasn't doing the trick). I think the key is making sure you have enough light...but anyways, here are some pictures! Hopefully I can make time in the future to take her 3 month, 6 month, etc. pictures too....but here are some of the pictures. You can find the rest on my facebook!

'Twas the Night Before Baptism....

and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even,...oh wait, Macyn sure was! We had bapstism this past Sunday, and on the baptism eve, Macyn decided to not go to bed until 1:00 in the morning...and then decided to be up at 5:00. What a night/morning! But anyways, we did indeed have baptism and it went really well....she slept the whole service (wonder why) and most of the day, so she was pretty easy to take care of. We had lunch and cake at our house afterwords with some relatives so it was nice to see all of them and overall had a great time with no big fiascos! We also became members of First Reformed on Sunday, so we had that, and then shortly after Macyn was baptised. My father in law did the baptism, and the words he spoke could have gotten me teary-eyed. (My mom and aunt both cried) He took Macyn into his arms and talked to her saying "I love you" and some other well wishes. We chose a verse for Macyn and my FIL memorized it and told it to Macyn:

"Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior." (Isaiah 43:1b-3a)

My DH and I really liked that verse, it shows God's plan for her (...called her by name, you are mine) and explained that he will always be w
ith her no matter what, and tells her that he is the Lord.

After the service we were welcomed to the congregation by mobs of people, which was really nice. My mom is from town here, so she knew alot of people in the church and had to explain how she was related, same with Josh's p
arents. All I know is there is going to be ALOT of Dutch Bingo going on!

.......but anyways, it was a great day, and here are some more pictures from Baptism.
